Why choose
MyStudio® Photo Assistant

The new MyStudio Photo Assistant mobile app
(FREE in the iOS App Store and Google Play Store) acts like a virtual assistant as you are taking photos with any of the MyStudio® Table Top Lightbox Kits.

Smartphone Users

Simply select which MyStudio® lightbox you have, and the app will show you the recommended exposure settings based on your equipment, then direct you to the live Camera View screen where you can make further adjustments on the live view screen before taking your photo.

DSLR Users

If you have a regular DSLR camera, or even a point-and-shoot style camera that allows you to shoot in MANUAL mode, then the MyStudio Photo Assistant app will give you complete exposure recommendations including ISO, Aperture (F-stop) and Shutter Speed.

How the app works

Follow these simple steps

1

DOWNLOAD

First, download the FREE MyStudio Photo Assistant mobile app from either the iOS App Store (iPhone users) or the Google Play Store (Android users)

2

OPEN THE APP

Launch the app on your smartphone device and select whether you are using a Smartphone or DSLR camera. You can toggle between the two camera types at any time depending on your needs.

3

ANSWER A FEW SIMPLE QUESTIONS

Follow the prompts to select which MyStudio® table top photo studio kit you are using (e.g. PS5, MS20, US31, etc). The app is preloaded with every MyStudio® complete lightbox kit, including both fluorescent and LED lighting variations, as well as extra light bars and accent lights for those users who have upgraded their kits.

4

SMARTPHONE USERS

After answering the questions, simply click “Go to Camera” to launch the camera live view on your smartphone. You will then be able to further adjust exposure settings (ISO and Shutter Speed) to fine tune your exposure in order to get your image looking as close to perfect as possible before capturing the photo.

5

DSLR USERS

DSLR camera users will click “View Recommended Settings” which will reveal exposure settings recommendations that include ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed based on the MyStudio® lightbox equipment that was selected. Via the slider controls on the app, users can also adjust any of the 3 exposure variables to see how the other elements adjust to maintain the same recommended exposure (e.g. if you want to use a lower aperture than the app recommends to create a shallower depth of field, the shutter speed recommendation will change to provide the same exposure)

Frequently Asked Questions

It is completely FREE! It can be downloaded from the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store.
Proper exposure is critical to creating a great product photo, and when shooting on an all-white background, the Auto exposure settings on most cameras will underexpose your images and turn the white background to gray. The MyStudio® Photo Assistant app will help you overcome this issue by providing recommended settings that are very close to a proper exposure, and then you can fine tune your images to suit the specific product(s) you are photographing. This will result in having to spend much less time editing your images to get them just right. Furthermore, by simply using the app, you will also learn how the 3 variables of exposure (ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed) interact which will improve your understanding and skill as a photographer.
Not at all. Although any photography experience helps, the app was actually designed especially for people with little to no photography experience. In fact, by using the app you will actually learn more about the principles of exposure that are used by professional photographers.
YES! It is very easy to use. Whether you are using a smartphone or DSLR, all you need to do is answer a few questions about which MyStudio® product(s) you have and the app will give you an initial recommendation for exposure settings, as well as show recommended settings if you wish to change any of the variables (e.g. if you adjust the Aperture, the recommended shutter speed will change to give you the same recommended exposure).
Not really. The app is pre-programmed to provide recommended exposure settings based on the specific light output of each MyStudio® complete photo studio kit. If you have another lightbox, the settings will most likely not provide an accurate result. You can certainly try and make your own adjustments while using the app with another brand of photo studio, but you will get the most accurate results by using a MyStudio® brand table top photo studio.
